It was a day of great joy at Mikael Agricola Church as the Revd Maria Obafemi-Onuigbo was installed as Chaplain of St Nicholas'. Friends from across the Diocese in Europe, from the Lutheran Church of Finland, and from our own diverse congregation gathered to give thanks and to look ahead with hope.
From the very first hymn, the church was full of the sound of many nations singing together — fitting for a congregation made up of more than twenty nationalities. The service was followed, as ever, by coffee and conversation, where new friendships were made and old ones renewed.
"My prayer is that all who come through these doors — whoever they are, and wherever they are on their journey of faith — will know that they belong."
In her first words to the congregation, Revd Maria spoke of her hope for a church that continues to welcome and serve all people in the name of Jesus Christ. There are exciting plans for the year ahead: deeper work with families and young people, a flourishing music ministry, and renewed care for those in need across the city.
We give thanks for all who have led and served our church over the years, and we look forward with confidence and joy to this new chapter together.
